Studies and Degrees
I studied computer science (1986-1992) and vocational pedagogics (1990-1997) at the Darmstadt University of
Technology. Since 2004 I hold a PhD in Computer Science from the Darmstadt University of Technology.
Working Experience
From 1992 till 1997 I worked as a research assistant at the Institute of Educational Science at the Aachen
University of Technology (RWTH Aachen). From 1997 till 2006 I was a research assistant/senior researcher at
GMD-IPSI (from 2001: Fraunhofer IPSI) in Darmstadt, leading the Concert research group. In summer 2005 I
spent three months as a visiting researcher at Drexel University, Philadelphia, USA. From 2006 till 2007 I was
professor (knowledge management) at LMU Munich University. From 2007 till 2014 I was a department
head/senior researcher at Fraunhofer IESE in Kaiserslautern, working on data management, ambient
technologies and energy management. Since September 2014 I am Professor for Web Literacies and E-
Learning at the Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences.
Teaching Experience
I gave courses on E-Learning, Teaching and Multimedia at RWTH Aachen University (1992-1997), on E-
Learning, Computer-Supported Cooperative Work/Computer-Supported Collaborative Learning (CSCW/CSCL)
at Darmstadt University (1997-2007), on Knowledge Management and CSCL at Munich University (2006-
2007) and on Design of Ambient Intelligent Systems at Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences (2010-2013).
Currently I give courses on online communication, web literacies and multimedia technologies at Darmstadt
University of Applied Sciences.
Services for the Scientific Community
I serve regularly as program committee member or reviewer for national and international conferences on
E-Learning, CSCL, CSCW and Knowledge Management. I am a founding member of the Special Interest
Group on E-Learning of the German Informatics Society (GI) and initiator of the DeLFI conference series.
